About Sanskrit

Sanskrit is the classical language of India and one of the oldest recorded languages of the Indo-European family. It is the medium of an enormous body of literature — the Vedas, Upanishads, epics, classical poetry and drama, and the systematic traditions of grammar, philosophy, logic and science. At the pre-university level, the study of Sanskrit introduces students to its structure, its prescribed texts and its place in the intellectual history of India.

The PU Sanskrit course is taught through prescribed prose, poetry and grammar, supported by lessons on composition and translation.
